Markings for two German fighter types from the end of the First World War which served in Polish colors after 1918. A water-slide sheet in 1:72.
Responsibility details are not available.
When Poland reappeared on the map after 1918, it had no aircraft industry of its own and put together its first fighter equipment mainly from what the retreating German army had left behind. Among the spoils were two types from the workshop of Anthony Fokker: the E.V high-wing monoplane with a single wing and no bracing, and the D.VII biplane, which counted as the best German fighter of the closing stages of the war. Both machines then took part in the fighting in the east, where the borders of the new state were being decided.
The motifs consist of the national checkerboards in the rendition of the day, machine numbers, escadrille emblems and small lettering. The markings of those years were varied and often improvised, which makes the sheet a rewarding source for building an unusual-looking model.
Fabric coverings with the ribs showing are not a flat surface, and a thin film will not draw over them without help. Let the motif rest in place for a while, therefore, and only then lay a moistened brush on it and settle it with light strokes from the center toward the edges. The rippled surface can be emphasized by carefully stippling on decal softener once it is dry.
The early Polish machines did not follow a uniform regulation and their appearance depended on where the aircraft came from and who had last repaired it. You will meet original German shades, oversprayed areas and bare doped linen alike. A period photograph is therefore more useful than a table when choosing a base.
The set contains the print only. Kits of both types are commonly made in this size and are bought separately.
