A helicopter standing on a bare board looks like an exhibit. The same helicopter standing on a surface matching its real station suddenly begins to tell a story about service at sea. That is exactly what this printed base serves for: it carries a model onto the landing deck of a modern French frigate and gives it surroundings which would otherwise have to be laboriously built.
The board measures 240 by 240 millimeters, is of acrylic 3 millimeters thick and weighs around 190 grams. The square format is logical for a deck scene, because the landing area at the stern of a ship is roughly as wide as it is deep. Acrylic has two undeniable advantages over paper or card. It stays perfectly flat, so it does not warp even after years, and its surface will bear wiping with a damp cloth, which comes in handy on an object a model is worked on.
It stands out most clearly under a deck helicopter in 1:72 scale, that is under a machine which really operates from frigates. It can also be used as a photographic background for shots of a finished model, as a ground for figures of deck personnel, or simply as an elegant way to unify a display case. The board is standalone, so nothing prevents completing it with elements of your own, whether tie-down nets, chocks or a crew. The model is only stood on the board and not fixed in any way, so one base can serve several different machines from a collection in turn.
