Dead Design 1:72 Fw 190D (both canopies) canopy mask is a set of pre-cut masks for the glazing of the cabin of the Focke-Wulf Fw 190D in 1:72 scale. According to the name it reckons with both forms of the canopy that were used on this version.
Responsibility details are not available.
It is not a kit nor a plastic accessory, but a masking set. The pre-cut masks are stuck onto the clear part of the cabin in such a way that they cover the glazing and uncover only the frames. The frame is then sprayed together with the airframe and once the paint has dried the mask is taken off. The note about both canopies is directly in the name of the set, so a double form of the cabin, of the kind that occurred on this line, is reckoned with.
The Fw 190D is the version of the Focke-Wulf Fw 190 with the liquid-cooled inverted V12 Junkers Jumo 213 engine. Against the forms with a radial engine it has a noticeably longer nose and tail of the fuselage and a differently shaped cabin. The glazing is intricate, the frames are narrow and in 1:72 they come out at tenths of a millimeter, so cutting them out of masking tape by hand is lengthy and seldom comes out the same on both sides.
First wash the clear part in lukewarm water with dish soap and let it dry, so that the mask holds and no dust is left under it. Lay the mask down with tweezers and press it onto the edge with a wooden toothpick, so that no air stays under the border. It proves worthwhile to spray the edge of the mask first with the color of the interior or with a thin coat of clear: that closes the border off and any overflow ends up in the shade that is to be under the frame anyway. Peel it off only after it has dried; lift a corner with the tip of a scalpel and pull the mask at an angle toward yourself, not straight up.
