Masking film for the extensive glazing of the long-range Focke-Wulf Fw 200C-3 Condor maritime aircraft in 1:72 scale. Cut for the Trumpeter kit, outer surface.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Focke-Wulf Fw 200 was born as an elegant transport for long-distance routes and in 1938 it demonstrated a non-stop flight between Berlin and New York. The war made something quite different of it: it received a ventral gondola with weapons, bomb racks and the task of finding convoys far out over the ocean. The C-3 version had a strengthened fuselage structure, because a civil frame was simply not built for a military load, and four BMW radial engines. The British side saw it as a serious threat and the label scourge of the Atlantic has stuck to this day.
There are truly many glazed areas here, from the cockpit through the side windows of the fuselage to the glazing of the gondola. Masking the whole set by hand takes an evening and the result tends to be uneven. Pre-cut parts shorten the preparation to a few minutes and the frames come out equally wide everywhere.
On large areas work in sections: the cockpit first, then the sides, the gondola last. Go over every segment with a smooth wooden stick after laying it on, so that the edge adheres in the corners too. Apply the paint from a greater distance and in two passes, as a heavy application builds up under the edge. Remove it before the finish has hardened to stone. The model, paints and glue are not part of the delivery.
