Stencils for an airbrush in 1:72 scale for the Japanese Mitsubishi G3M Nell naval bomber. The stencils are cut for the parts of the Hasegawa kit. Shading breaks up the uniformity of the large tail parts and the ailerons.
Responsibility details are not available.
A sheet of stencils for 1:72 scale intended for shading the tail surfaces and the ailerons of the Mitsubishi G3M naval bomber. The shapes allow for the parts of the Hasegawa kit. Spraying through the masks creates the impression that the surface follows the ribs under the covering, so large flat parts stop coming across as flat.
The G3M was a twin-engine land-based bomber of the Imperial Japanese Navy, built with the emphasis on range. Thanks to it precisely, units operating from the mainland could strike targets hundreds of kilometers away over the open sea. The best known day of its career came in December 1941, when Japanese torpedo and bombing formations took part in sinking a pair of British heavy ships off the Malayan coast: for the first time in history, large warships were destroyed by aircraft while under way on the open sea. Later the G3M gave way to a more modern successor and training and transport supplemented it. The Allied designation was Nell.
On long tail parts the most important thing is an even movement of the hand: lead a smooth pass along the whole length, not short bursts. You will tune the rest of the transition with a light translucent veil of the base shade, which reliably joins any discrepancies.
