An injection-molded plastic kit of the Soviet GAZ-AAA light truck with a load capacity of 1.5 tons, in 1:72 scale from UM (UniModels). It is a short-run kit with fine parts; the model captures the three-axle version of the well-known one-and-a-half-ton flatbed truck (nicknamed the poltorka). The package contains decals; check the particular number of parts and schemes against the manufacturer's part number for this item.
The GAZ-AAA was the three-axle (6x4) variant of the widespread Soviet GAZ-AA truck, which was derived from a license-built Ford vehicle. The added driven rear axle increased the cross-country mobility and the load capacity. In the Second World War the vehicle served in enormous numbers to carry cargo and troops and became the basis for ambulances, workshops, radio stations and weapon carriers. It was one of the pillars of Soviet army logistics.
Short-run kits call for care: clean any flash off the parts and glue them with thin cement for plastic, the finest pieces with cyanoacrylate. In 1:72 scale, paint the chassis and the cab before the final assembly. After the base protective green, apply a gloss coat under the decals and complete the weathering with washes and pigments for dust and mud effects on the wheels and the chassis.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
