This injection-molded plastic kit in 1:72 scale from Hobby Boss represents the German railway transporter intended for carrying the heavy self-propelled Karl-Gerät mortar. The model is built from gray molded plastic, and the package holds finely worked railway bogies, decals and illustrated instructions. The Karl-Gerät mortar itself is not part of this kit.
To carry the Gerät 040 by rail, from 1939 onward its great weight and length made it necessary to sling the self-propelled gun between two five-axle railway platforms. The carrying arms fixed to the Gerät 040 were raised by massive hydraulic rams, which slung the gun between the two railway platforms so that it could be transported safely.
With railway vehicles we recommend assembling the bogies and the carrying structure carefully, and only then dealing with the detail and the painting. Glue the plastic with liquid modeling cement, apply a primer and spray the paints with an airbrush. Rust and dusting effects can be brought out with washes and pigments.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
