An injection-molded plastic kit of the early German StuG III assault gun in the Ausf.C/D variant, in 1:72 scale from Trumpeter. The model captures the shape of the vehicle with the short gun and the revised front of the superstructure. The box holds injection-molded plastic on several sprues together with one-piece flexible tracks and illustrated instructions.
The StuG III was built on the chassis of the Panzer III tank and served as an assault gun for the direct support of infantry. The Ausf.C and Ausf.D versions were an almost identical early short-barreled configuration with the 7.5 cm StuK 37 L/24 gun. Compared with the earlier Ausf.B they received a revised front plate of the superstructure, from which the protruding slot of the direct sight disappeared, and that simplified the silhouette of the vehicle. German units committed these assault guns in the opening campaigns, where they supported the advance of the infantry against fortifications and firing nests.
Finish the running gear and the belly of the hull first, and only then fit the superstructure. Spray the period gray in thin coats with an airbrush. A dark wash in the engraved lines and edges picked out with a dry brush will give the low silhouette its relief. Weather the running gear with dust pigments for convincing mud and dust effects.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
