An injection-molded plastic kit of the British Grant Mk.I medium tank in 1:72 scale from Mirage Hobby. The model is richly detailed for such a small scale and the package is complemented by a photo-etched fret. The decals offer British units fielded in North Africa.
The Grant Mk.I was the British version of the American M3 medium tank. The British took over the American chassis with the 75 mm gun mounted in a side sponson of the hull, but asked for a reworked turret with a 37 mm gun and no commander's cupola. Grants played a significant part in the fighting in North Africa in 1942 and 1943, where their 75 mm gun could stand up to German vehicles.
Use liquid cement for plastic and work in subassemblies. Finish and paint the richly broken-down running gear before you close the hull. Glue the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue. Desert shades suit British vehicles in Africa (Caunter or the later sand); tune the weathering with washes into the pressed recesses and dust pigments on the running gear.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
