A photo-etched set for the Grumman TBM-3 Avenger carrier torpedo bomber in 1:72 scale from the Czech maker Eduard. The set contains fine metal parts that make it possible to model the mechanism and the detail of the folded wings of the Avenger faithfully, as they looked stowed on the deck of an aircraft carrier. The set is made for the matching plastic kit and replaces or supplements its parts. It is not a standalone aircraft model.
The Avenger had mechanically folding wings so as to take up as little room as possible on deck. In plastic the hinges and the structure of the joint are only roughly suggested; fine photo-etch adds thin metal parts that sharpen the wing joint and its surroundings. A model with folded wings captures the typical deck scene faithfully.
Bend the photo-etched parts with tweezers or a bending tool and glue them with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Before painting, degrease the metal and go over it with primer. Count on the fact that folding the wings may call for modifying the plastic parts according to the instructions.
An accessory for the advanced; it is not a standalone model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
