About product

Scottish Highlanders at order arms, 1:72 scale, Strelets-R

The set contains unpainted figures of Scottish Highland infantry of the Napoleonic era in a uniform static stance, where the soldier stands upright and rests the butt of his musket on the ground beside his right foot. The infantry figures of Strelets-R are cast from soft plastic as one-piece castings, so they are not assembled and once cleaned up can be painted straight away. 1:72 scale corresponds to the usual size of infantry and hardware in this size, so the set can be combined with other collections of the same scale.

The real subject and the equipment

The Highland regiments of the British army differed from the line infantry above all in their dress: a kilt of checked cloth, a tall feathered cap, a pouch worn at the front of the waist and gaiters on the calves. The rest of the equipment corresponds to the British infantry of the day, that is, a short coat, white crossbelts, a knapsack and a musket with bayonet. The combination of checked cloth and a single-color coat makes these figures a rewarding object for practicing the painting of uniforms.

Tips for working and painting

Soft plastic is flexible and paint holds badly on it by itself, so a layer of base primer is a necessity, not a choice. Before it, remove the thin flash in the seams and the burrs under the base with a sharp scalpel, rinse the figures in lukewarm water with detergent and let them dry perfectly. Deformed pieces are straightened by a brief immersion in hot water and cooling in the position required. The checked pattern of the kilt is painted in this scale by suggestion: first the base tone, then two to three thin lines with a brush with a good tip and finally a light darker glaze, which unifies the pattern. The feathered cap looks best after a dry brush, which brings out its texture.

Who the set is for

  • modelers building Napoleonic dioramas in 1:72 scale
  • collectors of historical figures for a display case
  • players of tabletop war games in a small scale
  • beginners who want to practice painting uniforms on accessible material

The figures are supplied unassembled and unpainted. Paints, primer and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

Sets of this kind usually run to tens of pieces; the number stated on the packaging is binding.

The infantry figures of Strelets-R are one-piece castings, so they call for no assembly. It is enough to clean the flash off them and prepare them for painting.

The surface of soft plastic is smooth and slightly greasy, and paint cracks on it without a base and flakes off when a figure is bent. Primer creates an intermediate layer the paint holds to.

Yes, 1:72 scale is a common standard with historical figures. The proportions and height of figures can differ slightly between manufacturers, but within one scene that does not as a rule matter.
