The Hotchkiss H35 is a French light tank from the second half of the 1930s. The shape of the vehicle was determined by the effort to offer the enemy the smallest possible target: a low hull, rounded outlines and a small one-man turret, in which the commander aimed, loaded and fired all at once. The armor consisted of cast parts, so the machine gives a rounder impression than the angular vehicles of other armies of the same period. The crew consisted of two men and the vehicle was built rather for escorting infantry than for duels with armored equipment.
The name states armament with a gun of 37 mm caliber in the SA38 form. Against the older short weapon of the same caliber it has a longer barrel and a higher muzzle velocity, so it did considerably better against armored targets. The longer barrel is at the same time the most conspicuous mark of this version, and during the build it pays to watch in the instructions which parts belong to it.
The 1:72 scale means small parts, so work with tweezers over a mat from which nothing can escape. Try the assembly dry first, especially on the running gear and the mounting of the turret. Wash and degrease the model before painting. French vehicles of the period are often presented in multi-color camouflage with soft transitions; on a small model choose a finer contrast between the fields, or the transitions will look coarse on the finished model.
Paints, glue, filler and add-on sets are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
