About product

Kfz.13: a First to Fight plastic kit, 1:72 scale

An injection-molded plastic kit of the early German Kfz.13 light armored car in 1:72 scale from the Polish brand First to Fight. The model comes from the series devoted to the vehicles of the 1939 campaign, it is simply laid out, with a lower part count and a rather modest interior. It captures the open outline of the car with light armor and machine gun armament. The exact contents of the particular package are given in the instructions in the box.

The real subject

The Kfz.13, named the Adler after its chassis and designated the Maschinengewehrkraftwagen (machine gun car), was one of the first armored reconnaissance vehicles the German army acquired after the First World War. It came about by setting a lightly armored open body on the chassis of the civilian Adler passenger car, and its main armament was a single machine gun. It was a cheap and simple solution for training and reconnaissance; by the start of the Second World War, though, the car was obsolete, with thin armor and an open top that gave the crew no protection. Even so it took part in small numbers in the fighting in Poland and in France before being withdrawn to auxiliary duties.

Building and painting tips

With a wheeled vehicle, take care to seat the axles correctly and align the wheels, so that the model stands level. On a simpler kit, check whether the glue you have chosen holds on the plastic used, and strengthen the joints with cyanoacrylate glue if need be. The open body invites painting the inside before it is finished. Bring the gray (Panzergrau) finish to life with shading, a dry brush on the edges and fine dust pigments on the wheels and the underside.

Who the model is for

  • For collectors of early German armored vehicles and the vehicles of 1939.
  • For fans of light reconnaissance armored cars.
  • For makers of dioramas of the campaigns in Poland and in France.
  • For modelers who will appreciate a quick build with a lower part count.

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
