Shaped self-adhesive masks for the cockpit glazing of the Japanese Kawasaki Ki-61 Hien fighter in 1:72 scale. For the clear parts of the RS Models kit, outer side.
Responsibility details are not available.
While the vast majority of Japanese fighters were built around radial engines, this machine received the liquid-cooled Ha-40 twelve-cylinder, a licensed derivative of the German Daimler-Benz. The result was an unusually slim nose and a silhouette Allied pilots at first took for Italian; hence the code name Tony it was given. The Japanese name Hien means swallow. The aircraft was fast and confident in a dive, but the engine was delicate and its production became the bottleneck of the whole program.
On this type the canopy frames are narrow and irregularly divided, so guessing their width with tape by eye means asking for an asymmetrical result. The cut parts remove that uncertainty and at the same time save the time that would otherwise go into measuring.
The best result comes from a procedure in which, once the film is applied, a thin coat of the cockpit shade is sprayed first and only then the outer camouflage. The edge then stays sharp even where the frame runs into a curve. Remove them carefully from the edge toward the middle of a field so that the finish does not tear. There is only masking material in the package. The kit, thinner and paints do not belong with it and are obtained separately.
