A set of photo-etched metal parts in 1:72 scale for a model of the Lockheed Martin F-35B Lightning II.
Responsibility details are not available.
The F-35B version differs from the other members of the family in its ability to take off from a short run and land vertically. A lift fan driven by a shaft is housed behind the cockpit and in the tail there is a nozzle that swivels downward; on landing the machine therefore stands on two vertical jets. The external shapes are subordinated to the effort for a low radar signature, which is why the panel gaps, the doors and the flap edges are broken into a sawtooth line.
The set contains photo-etched metal parts for 1:72 scale. The material is removed from thin sheet chemically, so the parts come out delicate and with sharp edges. On a small model it shows most: an element that is only suggested on a plastic part can be cut through and genuinely thin in photo-etch. The parts are held on tabs in a common fret.
Lay the fret on a hard surface and separate the parts with a sharp blade, not with cutters. Level the remains of the tabs with fine sandpaper. Make the bends along the marked grooves and do them in one movement; repeated bending breaks the metal. Join them with cyanoacrylate glue; plastic cement has no effect on metal. Degrease the parts before spraying and apply a primer so that the shade holds.
The set suits modelers who want to take a model beyond the level of the box contents and do not mind a little handwork with tweezers. Before gluing it pays to dry-fit every part. The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
