This resin set replaces the tracks and drive sprockets supplied in a kit of the M1 Abrams tank in 1:72 scale. According to the name these are early version tracks, and the set is treated universally, that is with the usual kits of this tank in mind. A small scale is at its most sensitive on tracks: injection-molded plastic usually loses the definition of the pads and tabs here, whereas a resin casting holds crisp edges and small recesses.
The M1 Abrams is an American main battle tank introduced at the start of the 1980s, powered by a gas turbine and built around composite armor. Its running gear has torsion bars, seven road wheels per side and a drive sprocket at the rear. The tracks went through several modifications during the service life, which differ in the shape of the pads and in the treatment of the drive sprocket, so choosing the correct type is one of the details by which a well-executed model of a particular machine is recognized.
Wash the castings in warm soapy water so that the mold release agent disappears from the surface. Cut the casting blocks away with a fine-bladed saw and level the cut mark with a file; resin is hard but brittle, so it does not pay to break it. It is glued with cyanoacrylate, not with plastic cement. Before gluing, fit the tracks dry and check the spacing between the drive sprocket and the idler wheel as well as the fact that the model sits down on its base on all its wheels. For painting, a dark base is enough, over which a dry brush in a steel shade is applied to the running surfaces and the edges; tune the rest with a wash and dust pigment according to the setting you place the model in.
The set is an accessory to a kit, not a standalone model. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted; glue and paints are not included in the package.
