A plastic kit of the Soviet 203 mm M1931 B-4 heavy howitzer nicknamed Stalin's Sledgehammer, from Zvezda in 1:72 scale. The kit captures this distinctive weapon on its massive tracked carriage. It is an injection-molded plastic model; the exact contents of the box and the number of parts are given in the instructions supplied.
The 203 mm M1931 B-4 howitzer was designed in the Soviet Union at the beginning of the 1930s as a powerful weapon for destroying fortifications. Series production ran in Leningrad and at other plants. The weapon sat on a tracked carriage, which spread its enormous weight and absorbed the heavy recoil. It first saw combat during the Soviet-Finnish War of 1939-40, where it destroyed Finnish concrete fortifications, and it was the Finns who gave it the nickname Stalin's Sledgehammer. In the Second World War it was used above all in attacks on heavily fortified positions.
Assemble the tracked carriage and the running gear carefully and clean up the small braille-scale parts with care. Use liquid cement on the plastic. Apply primer before painting and lay the paint down with an airbrush; in 1:72 thin coats show to advantage. Restrained weathering suits this weapon: washes into the engraved lines and fine dust and mud pigments on the carriage and the tracks.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
