This plastic kit from the Ukrainian manufacturer UM (Unimodels) captures the American M32A1B3 recovery vehicle, built on the proven chassis of the M4 Sherman tank. In the small 1:72 scale it makes up a compact model that will splendidly round out a collection of Allied equipment as well as a diorama scene with a damaged machine under repair.
The recovery vehicles of the M32 series came about during the Second World War by the conversion of M4 Sherman tanks: in place of the turret they received a fixed superstructure, a powerful winch and a folding A-frame boom, with which they were able to tow stranded or damaged equipment straight off the battlefield. The M32A1B3 version was derived from the hull of the M4A3 type and carried the modernized HVSS running gear with wider tracks. Machines of this series served with American units until the end of the war and long after it.
The 1:72 scale calls for patience with the small parts; glue the boom and the winch with a thin cement for plastic and let them harden properly. Paint the model in the basic olive drab of American vehicles and bring the details out with a fine wash and drybrushing. A working machine suits more pronounced dusting, traces of oil around the winch and scuffed metal on the tow hooks.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
