The Magach 6 B conversion set in 1:72 scale from Black Dog brings a model of the American tank into Israeli form with reactive armor.
Responsibility details are not available.
Resin castings complete a model of the tank with the features by which the Israeli machines designated Magach 6 B differed from the American original. The heart of the set lies in the blocks of reactive armor, which give the vehicle its characteristic angular outline.
The Israeli army used the name Magach for American-built tanks of the M48 and M60 series, which it gradually modified according to its own combat experience. The changes covered the commander's cupola, the machine gun armament, fire protection and ammunition stowage. The version marked with the number six is based on the M60A1 and carries a layer of reactive armor arranged in individual blocks around the turret and the front of the hull. The aim was protection against shaped-charge projectiles, whose use spread in the region in the 1970s.
The armor blocks only look convincing when they follow on in straight rows. It therefore pays to draw a thin guide line on the armor with a pencil and glue to it. First check that no gap is left between the casting and the plastic; even out any difference by sanding the base, not the casting. Once painted, the edges of the blocks will take a light lift in a lighter tone.
