A self-adhesive mask set in 1:72 scale for a model of the Douglas Skyhawk light attack aircraft in the A-4B and A-4P versions. Unlike the graded sets aimed at the glazing, this variant is marked CAMOUFLAGE, that is intended for masking the camouflage finish. The shapes match the specific kit named in the product name.

What a camouflage mask is for

In a small scale a multi-color finish is sprayed either freehand or with a mask. Freehand the result is different every time and the transitions are hard to repeat on the left and right sides of the model. A pre-cut mask, by contrast, holds the shape of each field exactly where it belongs and makes sure the pattern meets up on both sides of the fuselage. That is especially useful on camouflage schemes with hard edges between the fields.

Hard or soft edge

• A mask stuck down firmly onto the surface gives a hard edge.
• A mask raised slightly above the surface gives a softer transition, feathered by the overspray.
• Choose according to how the camouflage looked on the real subject you are building.
• Always spray straight on; at an angle the paint will blow in under the edge.

The real subject

The Skyhawk was a compact single-engine carrier-borne attack aircraft. The A-4B version was among the early production machines, and the A-4P designation was carried by the export aircraft derived from it and delivered to Argentina.
