A set of photo-etched parts in 1:72 scale for a model of the American F-4D Phantom II fighter-bomber. Metal sheet adds detail that cannot be done in plastic in this scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The F-4D is the version of the American two-seat twin-engine Phantom II fighter-bomber intended for the US Air Force. It followed on from the earlier F-4C version and differed mainly in the equipment for more accurate weapon delivery. The aircraft had no built-in gun; when the crew needed one, it was carried in an underwing pod. The F-4D made its name above all in service over Southeast Asia, where it carried out tasks from escorting strike formations to attacks on ground targets.
This is a set of photo-etched parts in 1:72 scale. It is precisely in a small scale that photo-etching makes the most sense: thin metal sheet can capture a thickness that injection-molded plastic would never hold at this size, whether it is the instrument panel, the seat belts, the grilles or small covers and flaps. The extent of the parts, their placement on the model and the kit they are intended for are stated in the manufacturer's instructions.
Work over a light backing and with tweezers; in this scale a part is often smaller than a fingernail. Separate it with a sharp blade pressed onto a hard backing rather than with cutters. Make the bends along the etched lines in one movement. You will not bond metal with polystyrene cement, so reach for cyanoacrylate glue or epoxy and apply it only with the tip of a toothpick. Before painting, degrease the sheet and lay a primer coat on it, otherwise the paint will not even survive handling on a smooth surface.
The kit, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
