A set of unpainted figures in 1:72 scale from the manufacturer Strelets-R, aimed by theme at a medieval Russian foot militia. This is not a kit of a vehicle nor of an aircraft, but an addition for dioramas and display case scenes, where foot characters round out the action, the depth and the scale of the whole composition.
In the medieval Russian principalities the militia was the foot component raised from the urban and rural population. Unlike the standing princely retinues it had no uniform equipment: a plain layer of clothing prevailed, with simple helmets, shields and pole weapons that could be obtained or made locally. It is precisely this unevenness that is interesting to depict, because every figure can look different and the scene does not come across as uniform.
The figures are cast from soft plastic. First deburr the parting lines carefully with a sharp scalpel and smooth the remains with a fine sanding sponge; the soft material does not crumble but is cut away rather, so draw the blade in a pulling movement. Primer is necessary before painting, otherwise the paint does not hold on the flexible surface and flakes off during handling. A thin layer from a spray or a brush-on primer intended for soft plastics is proven. Ordinary cement for polystyrene does not work here, so join the figures to bases and any divided parts with cyanoacrylate. Build the painting on a darker base, apply the middle tone over the whole area, accent the recesses with a dark wash and go over the edges of cloth, wood and metal with an almost dry brush.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints, bases and terrain material are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
