A photo-etched metal set for a model of the Bf 109G-6 fighter in 1:72 scale. Thin parts give the model detail for which a plastic molding is too thick.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Bf 109G-6 is a German single-seat fighter of the second half of the war, powered by the twelve-cylinder Daimler-Benz DB 605 engine. The G-6 version was among the most numerous, and you recognize it by the bulged fairings over the breeches of the fuselage machine guns, which forced the top of the forward fuselage to be widened. In 1:72 scale the model is small, so every extra part shows immediately.
Photo-etch is a thin metal fret with etched relief. The parts are separated from it, shaped and glued onto the model. Metal holds its shape even at a thickness that a plastic molding cannot reach, and that is exactly why photo-etch is used where plastic is necessarily thicker than the real thing: on belts and brackets in the cockpit, on grilles, grab handles and thin sheet metal. The range of parts and the order of assembly are shown in the manufacturer's instructions.
Separate a part with a sharp blade on a hard surface and do not break it out with your fingers, because thin metal twists and is difficult to straighten again. Make the bends over the edge of a bender or between two blades, so that the edge stays crisp along its whole length. It is bonded with super glue applied in a small amount, with the tip of a toothpick for instance; polystyrene cement will not join metal. Before painting, wash the metal, degrease it and use a primer, otherwise the coat comes away from the smooth surface. The fret is drawn for one particular kit, so check with the manufacturer which Bf 109G-6 model in 1:72 scale it is intended for.
The photo-etched set is supplied. The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
