1:72 Mig-21 Around The World - North Korea

MiG-21 Around the World decals, North Korea, 1:72, Model Maker

This is a standalone decal sheet, not a kit. The set is intended for a MiG-21 kit in 1:72 scale, which is obtained separately, and adds markings for the North Korean operator. Model Maker is a Polish brand that specializes in exactly this kind of decal sheet for aircraft models.

The base decides the result

A decal behaves one way on a flat coat and another way on a gloss one. From the point of view of the decal a flat surface is rough, a thin layer of air stays between the film and the paint, and the edges then shine with what is called silvering. Before applying, therefore, brush or spray the whole model with a gloss clear coat, let it cure properly and only then reach for the sheet. The clear coat has to be compatible with the paint used; with acrylics as well as enamels it is better to test this in advance on a scrap piece.

Application procedure

• Cut the decal out as close to the print as possible so that a minimum of clear film is left.
• Soak it for a few seconds in lukewarm water and let it rest on a paper towel until it starts to slide on the backing paper.
• Put a little water or decal fixer solution on the spot, slide the decal over with tweezers and adjust the position with a soft brush.
• Draw off the excess water with a towel, from the middle toward the edges, so that no bubbles are left under the film.
• Once dry, go over the model with a flat or satin clear coat, which seals the edges of the film.

Who the set is for

• Modelers who build the MiG-21 in 1:72 scale and want markings outside the usual options.
• Collectors of one type of aircraft in the finishes of different operators.
• Anyone whose decals in the box have aged or fallen apart.

The package contains decals. The kit, paints, clear coats and softener are not part of it, unless stated otherwise.
