This item is not a kit nor a cockpit accessory but a decal sheet. It carries the markings of one particular aircraft: a Mirage 2000-5F with the fuselage number 43 and the code 2-EJ, in the special finish named Vieux Charles that the EC 1/2 Cigognes fighter unit carried in 2017. Special schemes of this kind are created for anniversaries and display seasons, and a modeler chooses them precisely because the finished model differs from a standard aircraft at first glance.
The Mirage 2000-5F is the upgraded version of the French single-engine delta-winged fighter, adapted for air defense tasks with an improved radar and avionics. The decals deal with the markings of one particular aircraft, not with its operational use.
With special schemes the preparation of the surface matters more than with ordinary markings, because large colored areas reveal every shortcoming. The procedure is always the same: finish the paintwork, go over it with a gloss varnish and let it dry thoroughly. The gloss is not cosmetics: on a matte surface air stays under the decal in microscopic recesses and silvering appears, a milky veil around the motif that can no longer be put right. Cut the elements out as close to the edge as possible, soak them in lukewarm water only until they release from the backing, and transfer them onto a surface wetted with water so that they can be slid about. Draw the surplus water off with a paper towel from the center outward. On riveted areas, curved transitions and edges, use a decal softener; that softens the motif for a few minutes so that it settles into the surface texture, and at that moment do not touch it, even if it ripples. Once dry comes a matte or semi-gloss varnish, which sinks the edges of the decal into the surface.
The package contains decals. A kit, paints, varnishes and a decal softener are not included.
