A photo-etched set for a model of the reconnaissance Mosquito PR.XVI in 1:72 scale. It adds fine metal parts to a kit that cannot be produced in plastic.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Mosquito was a British twin-engine aircraft of wooden construction which, thanks to its low weight and a pair of Merlin twelve-cylinder V engines, was among the fastest machines of its day. The PR version served for photographic reconnaissance: it carried no armament and relied on speed and ceiling. The PR.XVI variant is a high-altitude one and its crew worked in a pressurized cabin, which allowed them long flights at great heights.
Photo-etched parts are produced from thin metal sheet, so they have a realistic thickness even where a plastic part would look coarse. Typically these are the elements on which fineness shows most: instrument panels, seat belts, covers and meshes or the small reinforcement of the landing gear bays. The exact contents of the set are given in the instructions supplied by the manufacturer.
Separate the parts with a sharp blade on a firm backing, not by twisting, otherwise they will bend. Make the bends in a bending tool or over the edge of a steel ruler and always guide them along the marked score. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue applied in a minute amount; on larger areas a two-part glue helps, as it gives time to true the part up. Before painting, wash and degrease the sheet so that the paint will hold on the smooth metal.
The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
