An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:72 scale from Trumpeter. Note: this is not an aircraft model but a tracking radar, the AN/MPQ-53, a key part of the American Patriot air defense missile system. The model consists of a radar station on a towed trailer with a large antenna panel, ideal as a striking element in a diorama. According to the manufacturer it contains rubber tires for greater realism; paints, glue and accessories are not included.
The AN/MPQ-53 is a multifunction phased array radar working in the C band. In the Patriot system it provides search, tracking and identification of targets as well as guidance for the surface-to-air missiles and functions for resistance to jamming. It can track a large number of targets at once. It is transported on a wheeled trailer and deployed at the firing position of a Patriot battery.
The large surface of the antenna panel deserves the most attention: watch out for flatness and clean edges so that this striking panel shows to advantage. Assemble and paint the trailer and the chassis with weathering in mind (dust and mud effects). Glue the plastic with thin cement and apply a primer before using an airbrush. For a striking result, consider placing it in a diorama with other elements of the battery.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
