Dead Design 1:72 national insignia masks for the Kawanishi N1K2-J and N1K3-J Shiden let you spray the hinomaru directly into the finish.
Responsibility details are not available.
This set from Dead Design serves for spraying the Japanese national insignia onto a Kawanishi N1K2-J or N1K3-J model in 1:72 scale. An insignia applied through a mask lies directly in the finish, so no glossy step appears at its edge and no outline of a carrier film shows up after a matte coat, the way it sometimes turns out with decals.
The N1K series arose from converting the Kyofu floatplane fighter into a land-based machine. The N1K2-J version received a reworked fuselage, a low-set wing and simpler landing gear, while on the N1K3-J the powerplant moved and the armament was revised. With four cannons and automatic combat flaps it was one of the few Japanese fighters that could deal even with the late American types. Its best-known service was with the 343rd Air Group in 1945.
The area under the insignia has to be smooth and matte, as the edge will blur on a grainy surface. Red covers poorly, so put a thin white preparation under it, otherwise it will go brown over green camouflage. Apply the paint at right angles and lead it from the center to the edge, so that it does not get under the mask. Lift shortly after it has set and level any overrun with a cotton swab and a drop of thinner, not by sanding.
