The second variant of the motif of the Oceana air station in 1:72 scale offers a different section of the same airfield from the first variant.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Type 2 label in the name means that this is the second rendition of the motif of the same airfield. The manufacturer handles in this way the situation where one area is not enough to cover the various parts of an airfield, or where a collector wants to stand two models side by side on a continuous surface. The item itself is a base for a finished kit, not a kit.
Oceana belongs to the US Navy and lies in eastern Virginia, in the conurbation between Norfolk and Virginia Beach. It grew from a modest field airstrip into one of the busiest jet bases in the country, and the markings of its ramps are therefore extensive: besides guide lines you will find numbered spots, crossing stripes and warning hatching around sensitive places here. It is exactly this variety that makes it sensible for the motif to exist in more than one rendition.
If you have both variants, lay them side by side along the longer edges and disguise the join with a small piece of equipment or a figure; the eye will stop noticing the seam. When displaying in a cabinet, count on a smooth surface reflecting spotlighting; a diffuse source or a frosted cover removes the problem. Clean the surface with a dry cloth and no solvents.
