A self-adhesive masking set from the Czech manufacturer Peewit, meant for a plastic model of the North American Mustang I fighter and its attack version, the A-36 Apache, in 1:72. It is not a model or a kit but an accessory: the masks are laid on the canopy glazing and on other surfaces that are to stay clear or in a different shade after spraying. The shapes are cut to a particular plastic kit in this scale, so before buying it pays to check that the set matches the model you are building.
The Mustang I was the first combat version of the North American fighter, built to an order from the Royal Air Force. It was powered by the Allison V12 engine, which gave the machine excellent performance at low level, and so the aircraft found its use mainly in tactical reconnaissance and attacks on ground targets. The A-36 Apache version came about as a dive-bombing attack aircraft: it was given dive brakes in the wing and pylons for bombs. Both machines are marked by a sliding canopy with pronounced framing, which is hard to mask by hand.
Lift the masks off the carrier sheet with pointed tweezers, lay them on degreased and dry glazing and press them down carefully. The material follows slightly curved surfaces well and can be lifted off after spraying with no adhesive left behind. First spray the frames in the interior color and only then in the outer camouflage shade, so that no line shows through. Apply the paint in thin layers so that it does not creep under the edge of the mask. Lift the mask off shortly after the paint has set, while the film is still flexible, otherwise the edge risks tearing away.
