A double-sided Art Scale masking set for the OV-10D Bronco in 1:72 scale

This item is a set of pre-cut self-adhesive masks for a model of the OV-10D Bronco in 1:72 scale, not the model itself. The double-sided designation means that masking is done from both sides of the glazing: the outer side for the airframe color, the inner side for the cockpit shade. On the Bronco that makes more sense than on other types, because it has extensive glazing with a good view to the sides and downward and the frames are visible from both sides.

The real subject

The OV-10 Bronco is a twin-engined turboprop aircraft with a twin-boom tail, designed for observation, directing air support and light strikes. The OV-10D version came about as a night variant with a lengthened nose for an observation and targeting system and served chiefly with the US Marine Corps. It is the shape of the forward part of the aircraft that sets the D version apart from the earlier OV-10A machines, and it carries over into the cut of the masking stencils.

Use

• Start with the masks on the inner side of the glazing, then carry on from the outside.
• Press the edges down all the way round, so that paint does not run under them.
• Apply the paint in thin coats perpendicular to the edge of the mask.
• Take the stencil off once the paint has flashed off, pulling at an angle with tweezers.
• The placement of the individual masks is shown by the instructions included with the set.

Who the set is for

For modelers who do not fancy cutting a great many small frames with a scalpel at a small scale. The double-sided version will be appreciated by anyone building a Bronco with the cockpit doors open or wanting the glazing true in the view inside as well.
