A collector's model from the Easy Model range of finished display pieces. The aircraft is assembled and painted at the factory including the markings, so building, painting and decals all fall away. That is exactly why it is a practical choice as a gift: the recipient needs no equipment and no experience and simply unpacks the model and sets it in a display case.
The Bell P-39 Airacobra was an American single-seat fighter with several unusual design features. The engine sat behind the cockpit and drove the propeller through a long shaft led under the cockpit floor, which freed the nose for armament. The aircraft also had nose landing gear, at that time unusual on fighters, and doors to the cockpit in the manner of a car. Given the output of the engine at greater altitudes the type proved itself mainly at low and medium altitudes, and a considerable part of production went abroad, where it was used above all for fighting over the battlefield.
A finished finish means the model looks just as good straight out of the box as it does after years in a display case, provided it is sensibly looked after. The risk of a half-built kit being left unfinished falls away, and so does buying paints and tools. For a collection it has the advantage of a uniform standard of finish, so it goes well with other pieces of the same range.
Take hold of the model by the fuselage, not by the propeller or the landing gear legs. Remove dust with a dry soft brush and use no water or detergent. Place the display case out of direct sunlight, which gradually changes the shade of the paint and of the clear parts.
