Photo-etched landing flaps for the Bell P-39 and P-400 Airacobra in 1:72 scale are an accessory to a kit you have already bought. They let you build the model with the flaps lowered.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is an accessory photo-etched set for a model of the American Bell P-39 Airacobra fighter and its export version, the P-400, in 1:72 scale, cut for one particular kit, the RS Models one. It is not a kit; the model is bought separately. The accessory is made by the Czech company Brengun.
Landing flaps are a rewarding feature on a model. Closed flaps look unnatural on an aircraft parked at an airfield, while lowered ones give a model dynamism and reveal the internal structure of the wing, which a kit does not show at all in the closed state. This type of part is ideal for photo-etching, because a flap is a flat part with braces and in plastic it always comes out too thick. The exact make-up of the parts is on the packaging of the set.
Reckon with the fact that converting the flaps usually means cutting the original plastic part out of the wing. Go slowly, score the line repeatedly with a scalpel instead of making one deep cut, and then level the edge with a file. Etched sheet is worth annealing before forming, as it softens and holds its shape better without cracks. Glue the assembly with super glue and let it cure properly before you start sanding the surrounding area. Degrease the whole area before painting and spray a primer, otherwise paint will not hold on metal.
The accessory is supplied unpainted and it is not a model kit. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
