A masking set for the glazing of a model of the fighter Bell P-39Q Airacobra in 1:72 scale. The masks are stuck onto the frames of the glazing before spraying and taken off once the paint has dried.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Bell P-39 Airacobra is an American fighter from the Second World War with an unusual layout: the Allison V-1710 engine, a V12, sits behind the cabin in the middle of the fuselage and drives the propeller through a long shaft led under the floor of the cabin. The nose, thus freed, received nose landing gear and a 37 mm cannon firing through the axis of the propeller hub. The cabin was not climbed into under a sliding canopy but through side doors of the automobile type with a wind-down window. The P-39Q version was the most numerous and a large part of the production headed for the Soviet Union, where the machine proved its worth at low altitudes.
The set covers the glazing of a model while it is being sprayed. The masks are cut to the shape of the frames, so the transition between the frame and the clear part comes out sharp and straight, which with tape in the small 1:72 scale is done badly. On the Airacobra that goes double, because the glazing consists of the windshield, both side doors with windows and the rear panels.
The set is an accessory to a plastic kit in 1:72 scale. A model, paints and glue are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
