The Tornado was created as a joint project of three European countries, and from the middle of the 1990s the British strike version went through an extensive upgrade after which the machines received the GR.4 designation. New targeting pods were added, the ability to carry guided munitions and above all a completely reworked cockpit with large screens in place of the old gauges. The Royal Air Force operated this type until the spring of 2019. The shapes of the decals come from the parts of the Italeri or Monogram kit, which is not in the package.
The subject on the sheet matches the upgraded cockpit with its electronics switched on. The displays have their picture drawn out, and the front and the rear station are both covered, including the side panels and switches. The print is layered and in color, so the bezels of the instruments and the buttons gain a depth that a flat decal or paint cannot offer.
Before gluing, the plastic panel is sanded smooth and painted a dark shade, so that no plastic shows through the thin print anywhere. The pieces are released in clean lukewarm water, seated with tweezers and pressed down with a moistened brush; once dry it is not advisable to cover them with any layer other than light matte varnish.
The cockpit of the upgraded machine differs from the original so much that the sheets for the two forms cannot be interchanged. Anyone building a Tornado in its later form needs precisely the panels with large screens; separate sets were released for the earlier state with classic needle gauges. The state of the displays is then only a matter of whether the model is to stand on the ground or be captured in action.
The package is made up of a printed sheet for the cockpit and holds nothing else.
