Eduard PBM-5/PBM-5A Mariner masking set 1:72

This Eduard set in 1:72 scale contains precisely pre-cut self-adhesive painting masks for a plastic model of the American twin-engine Martin PBM Mariner patrol flying boat in its PBM-5 and PBM-5A versions. It is not a kit and it is not a model of the aircraft in its own right, but an aid for painting: the masks follow the framing of the glazed cockpit, the observation windows and the gun positions exactly, so you can spray sharp, straight frame lines without laboriously laying down masking tape.

The real subject

The Martin PBM Mariner is an American twin-engine patrol and anti-submarine flying boat of the Second World War and the postwar era. The PBM-5A version is amphibious, having received retractable nose and main landing gear, so it could operate from the water and from hard airfields alike. The Mariner was used for long-range patrols over the ocean, for search work and for rescue missions.

How to use the masks

Lift the masks off the backing film carefully with tweezers or the tip of a scalpel and press them onto the glazing so that they follow the shape of the frames. The transparent areas stay covered and only the frame is left exposed. Spray the paint, ideally with an airbrush in thin coats, and take the masks off once it is dry. Wipe away any adhesive residue with a lightly dampened cloth.

Who the set is for

• Modelers building the PBM Mariner in 1:72 scale
• Those who want sharp, clean glazing frames without tape applied by hand
• Builders who would rather not spend time cutting masks out of tape
• Beginners and experienced builders who paint with an airbrush or a brush

The package contains pre-cut masks only. The model, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
