A set of precisely die-cut self-adhesive masks from the Czech manufacturer Eduard for models of the British Phantom FGR.2 version in 1:72 scale. It is not a kit: these are masking templates in yellow film, which are applied to the parts before spraying. The set deals above all with the intricate glazing of the two-seat cockpit, where the framing has more segments and masking by hand is a long job, and also with the tires of the landing gear wheels. The masks follow the shape of the individual frames, so there is no measuring, cutting strips or patching the corners.
Lift the individual masks with tweezers and lay them on the glazing frames, then fill the area in the middle with leftover film or masking tape. Press the edges down firmly with a blunt point so that the paint does not run under the film, which goes double on an intricate canopy with pronounced edges. Apply the paint in thin coats; a heavy layer raises the risk of a step forming at the edge when the mask comes off. A proven method is to spray a thin coat in the interior shade first and only then the exterior camouflage scheme over it, so that the frames look right from within. Remove the mask shortly after the paint has dried, not after several days, because an old finish separates less well at the edge. The mask on the tire covers the tread and lets you spray the hub without going around it with a brush, which saves the most work on the landing gear wheels.
The set holds masks only. The aircraft model, paints and glue are not included in the package. The masks are intended for models in 1:72 scale.
