This is not a model of a vehicle but a detail accessory to a finished plastic kit. The set replaces the armament of the Polish TKS tankette, that is the Hotchkiss wz.25 machine gun together with its mount. According to the name it is a combination of resin and turned parts, which with small armament is the usual solution, where the casting carries the body with its complicated shape and the turned part the barrel itself. The accessory is released by the Polish brand MASTER.
In 1:72 scale the machine gun on a tankette is measured in millimeters, and an injection mold simplifies it considerably for technological reasons. The barrel tends to be thicker than it should be, it carries a mold seam and the muzzle stays solid. A turned part, against that, is straight and concentric and its muzzle is genuinely drilled, so even a small weapon looks faithful. Metal also stands up to handling that a thin plastic projection might not survive. The resin portion, for its part, captures the shape of the mount and of the body of the weapon more crisply than a split mold allows. It is precisely on a tankette, where the armament is the main expressive element of a small hull, that the difference is clearly apparent on the finished model.
First wash the resin parts in warm soapy water, cut the casting blocks off and sand the cut with your airways protected. Cut the original plastic weapon off and true up the mating surface. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue, as ordinary cement for plastic will join neither resin nor metal. Apply a primer before painting; on a metal part it is indispensable. Finally darken the bore of the barrel.
