A set of die-cut self-adhesive vinyl masks in 1:72 scale for spraying British aircraft roundels of type C. The insignia is built up by masking and spraying the individual colors in turn, so that it is created directly in the finish of the model. Compared with a decal, the carrier film and the need for a gloss base against silvering are done away with; in return you have to work carefully and in layers.
Type C is the later wartime form of the British roundel. Compared with the older type A it has a markedly narrower white ring and different proportions of the color circles, so the insignia looks darker and less conspicuous. The C.1 variant is supplemented by a narrow yellow outer ring and was used above all on the sides of the fuselage. Markings of this type appear on British machines from the middle phase of the Second World War and carry on into the postwar period, which is why they are among the most frequently needed variants of British markings.
The model has to be smoothly sprayed, degreased and fully cured before masking. Lift the masks off the sheet with tweezers, lay them in place and press the edges down thoroughly, so that no paint runs under the film. Work in layers from the lighter color to the darker one and let each of them dry properly; apply the paint thinly, because a heavy coat leaves a ridge at the edge. Lift the mask off shortly after it has dried, pulling sideways at an angle. A gloss base limits paint creeping under better than a rough matte surface and makes sharp edges on the finished marking easier.
The package holds masking film only. The paints and the model are not included in the package.
