Hasegawa 1:72 Reactive Armored VF-0S – a plastic kit of the VF-0S variable fighter in the form with an add-on reactive armor pack.
Responsibility details are not available.
This plastic kit in 1:72 scale captures the VF-0S machine in the special form with an add-on armor pack. Hasegawa is an established Japanese manufacturer and its science fiction ranges are built much like classic aircraft models: the parts are injection molded, the joints engraved and the surface carries fine engraving that asks to be accentuated once painted.
The VF-0S is a variable fighter from the animated world of Macross, which in the story represents an early machine preceding the later and better-known types. The form with reactive armor adds bulky external panels and attachments, which make the machine look far more rugged than in its basic shape. It is exactly that difference which is the main reason to reach for this version rather than the basic release.
Proceed as with an aircraft model: first the cockpit and the internal parts, then closing the fuselage up and cleaning the joints. It is advisable to paint the large armor surfaces separately and to join them only at the end, as otherwise the recesses are hard to reach. First lay on a primer, then the base shades with an airbrush in thin coats, gloss varnish before the decals and finally a matte or semi-gloss clear coat. A dark wash in the engraved lines and discreet drybrushing of the edges will give the model depth, but with a science fiction subject it pays to keep to a measure – exaggerated wear is distracting.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
