An injection-molded plastic kit of the Soviet KV-1 heavy tank in the model 1942 version with the simplified cast turret, in 1:72 scale from Trumpeter. The set contains parts in gray plastic, one-piece vinyl tracks and a decal sheet. The hallmark of this version is the massive cast turret of simpler shape, easy to tell apart both from the earlier welded turrets and from the version with bolt-on plates.
The KV-1 model 1942 was a later production version of the Soviet KV-1 heavy tank. Compared with the early machines it received a cast turret of simplified design, thicker armor and an improved 76 mm gun. Simplifying production allowed faster output in wartime without any loss in the resistance of the vehicle. This version too kept the reputation of a well-armored, if slow and heavy, machine.
Assemble and paint the running gear (road wheels, return rollers, tracks) before closing the hull, while access to it is best. Join the vinyl tracks with cyanoacrylate glue. Lay down primer first, then the base green shade with an airbrush, and the weathering last: washes into the recesses of the cast turret surface and pigments for mud and dust effects. The coarser texture of the turret casting can be brought out with light drybrushing in a lighter color.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
