An injection-molded plastic kit of the Russian BTR-80 eight-wheeled armored personnel carrier in 1:72 scale from Trumpeter. The model captures a modern amphibious vehicle with a small weapon turret. The package consists of injection plastic on several sprues together with the wheels and illustrated instructions.
The BTR-80 is an eight-wheeled amphibious armored personnel carrier developed in the Soviet Union in the 1980s as the successor to the older types of the BTR series. In water it moves by means of a water jet at the rear, and on land its eight driven wheels give it good cross-country performance. In a small rotating turret it carries a heavy machine gun, and the infantry squad boards through side doors between the wheels. The vehicle is still widespread in the Russian army and in many other countries and turns up in a number of modern conflicts.
Assemble the hull and the running gear with the wheels first, and only then finish the turret and the detail. Paint the wheels separately, as that makes it easier to paint the rubber tires and the rims. Spray the modern green or three-color camouflage with an airbrush in thin coats, give the engraved lines depth with a dark wash and weather the underside of the vehicle with dust pigments for mud effects.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
