A plastic figure set of Russian dragoon cavalry of the years 1812 to 1814 in 1:72 scale from the Russian manufacturer Zvezda, released in 2015. The package holds three riders and three horses, each in a different pose. The figures are of hard plastic, are supplied unpainted and come with no decals. It is a small set covering a single unit for a turn-based game, not a large box for a whole formation.
Dragoons were originally infantry on horseback who dismounted to fight. By the beginning of the nineteenth century they were full-fledged medium cavalry: the Russian dragoon regiments wore green coats and crested helmets and fought with the broadsword and the carbine. It was precisely that versatility which, in the campaign of 1812, made them the mainstay of advance reconnaissance and of the pursuit of a retreating enemy.
Both the riders and the horses are split into two halves and hold in the joint even without glue, so the pose can be twisted slightly. One figure hangs on the sprue by the thin blade of its broadsword, so cut it off carefully. The bases of the horses are wide and thick; for a diorama it is better to cut them off and replace them with a base of your own. Start painting from the coat, then the horse's coat of hair and finally the equipment, and bring out the details with a wash.
The figures are supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
