About product

Hauler 1:72 Russo-Balt type C: a limited-run kit

A kit of the historic car Russo-Balt type C in 1:72 scale. It comes from the manufacturer's limited-run range, which works with cast parts, and in its demands and the way it is built it therefore differs from an ordinary injection-molded kit. Check the exact composition of the package with the manufacturer; it cannot be deduced from the name.

The real subject

Russo-Balt was the car marque of the Russo-Baltic wagon works in Riga, one of the first enterprises in tsarist Russia to build cars in series rather than individually. The type C was among its most widespread passenger cars from the years before the First World War, and its chassis also served for a range of utility and service bodies. In design it is a car typical of its time: a high chassis, large spoked wheels, an open body and simple cowling over the radiator. It is precisely that silhouette that makes the model a rewarding addition to dioramas from the period around the First World War.

Building and painting tips

Wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water, cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw and level the surfaces by wet sanding with respiratory protection. Glue with cyanoacrylate, because cement for polystyrene does not hold on cast parts. On cars of this era the result is decided by the contrast of the glossy painted body against the matte tires and the dusty chassis: spray the body thinly and polish it with varnish, while leaving the wheels and the underside matte and dusting them lightly with pigment. Small additions such as the lamps and the handles deserve to be painted separately off the model.

Who the kit is for

  • For collectors of historic vehicles in a small scale
  • For builders of dioramas from the period around the First World War
  • For modelers looking for a type outside the usual range of the large manufacturers
  • For more experienced builders used to cast parts and fine work

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

A passenger car of the Russo-Baltic wagon works in Riga, one of the first series builders of cars in tsarist Russia. The type C was among its most widespread cars.

The product comes from a limited-run range built on cast parts. We recommend checking the exact composition of the package with the manufacturer.

Cyanoacrylate or epoxy. Cement for polystyrene will not join cast parts.

The 1:72 scale does not correspond to the common railway scales, so we recommend it rather for separate dioramas and display cases.
