This kit from the Italian brand Italeri covers the light Sd.Kfz. 250 armored half-track in the 250/3 version. The 1:72 scale is popular among collectors of vehicles above all because a whole column fits into a display case and the models can easily be combined with railroad and aircraft accessories of the same size. Thanks to the small dimensions of the real subject the model is compact and builds up fairly quickly.
The Sd.Kfz. 250 series was a lighter counterpart to the larger armored half-track and appeared in many specialized forms. The 250/3 version served as a radio vehicle, that is as a mobile signals post that provided communication between units and higher command. The identifying feature of this version is precisely the antenna equipment above the open crew compartment. Thanks to its small dimensions and decent cross-country mobility the vehicle suited reconnaissance tasks as well.
On a half-track the running gear is the key, so seat the wheels and the tracks accurately and let them dry on a flat surface so that the model does not sit lopsided. The open crew compartment is visible, so finish the interior and its color breakdown before you close the upper part. The antennas are very fine in this scale; anyone who wishes can replace them with tensioned fishing line or thin wire. The painting can be managed with an airbrush at a fine setting, and a wash and dry brushing suit picking out the rivets and edges, while mud and dust effects should go mainly on the lower part of the hull and on the tracks.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
