Zvezda 1:72 Soviet Infantry Platoon Kursk, 1943 is a set of plastic figures of Soviet infantry in 1:72 scale, intended to complete dioramas and gaming setups from the Eastern Front of 1943.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set brings plastic figures of Soviet infantry in 1:72 scale. It is not a kit of a vehicle or an aircraft, but an accessory with which dioramas, display cases and gaming tables are populated. In theme it is tied to the fighting in the area of the Kursk salient in the summer of 1943, where the infantry advanced together with armored equipment. A figure in this scale measures around two and a half centimeters, so the set goes well with models of tanks, guns and trucks in 1:72 and 1:76 scale alike.
In 1943 Soviet infantry was organized into platoons and squads armed with bolt-action rifles, submachine guns and light machine guns. A typical feature of the summer appearance was a field tunic in a khaki shade, leather and canvas belt equipment, a helmet or a field cap and sparse personal kit. Uniforms of this period differ from the early wartime appearance in details of the collar tabs and the equipment carried, which it pays to respect both when painting and when arranging the figures into a scene.
The parts are small, so separate them with a sharp knife or nippers and sand the parting seams down with fine sanding paper. A thin coat of base color follows, then the basic khaki and olive tone, a dark wash run into the folds of the cloth and a dry brush to bring out the edges. For the faces and the hands a size 0 brush is enough. A matte varnish will even the finished figures out and at the same time protect the paint while handling them on a gaming table.
The figures are supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and a base are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
