A finished model of the Swedish Stridsvagn 103 tank in the B version, 1:72 scale. The maker supplies it assembled, painted and marked; it is a collector exhibit, not a kit. You therefore need no glue, filler, primer or airbrush, and the model is complete from the moment you unpack it.
The Strv 103, nicknamed the S-tank, is among the most interesting tanks of the Cold War in design. Its most conspicuous feature is the absence of a rotating turret: the gun is fixed rigidly in the hull and aiming is done with the whole vehicle. Horizontal aiming is provided by turning on the spot on the tracks, and vertical aiming by hydropneumatic suspension, with which the pitch of the whole hull can be changed. The solution allowed an exceptionally low silhouette, which was the main advantage in the defensive concept the vehicle was created for. The design also included a combined powerplant and automatic loading. The B version represents the production standard following on from the first production step.
The low, long silhouette of the S-tank works in a display case by itself: among classic tanks with turrets it is recognizable at first glance and will draw the attention even of a visitor with no interest in military vehicles. In 1:72 scale the model takes up little room and combines well with other vehicles of the same era. Display it out of direct sun, wipe the dust off with a soft brush and, when handling it, support it by the hull rather than by the barrel or small external parts.
The model is supplied finished: assembled and painted. Nothing is glued or painted, and no glue or paints are needed.
