This is an accessory set in 1:72, not a kit of the vehicle. It completes a model of the Soviet SU-122 self-propelled gun with cargo and kit, that is with the things that give the machine the look of a vehicle in everyday use. The set is made by the Czech brand Black Dog, long focused on accessories for models of ground vehicles.
The SU-122 came about from a simple and very Soviet line of thought: take the proven chassis of the T-34 tank and build an enclosed superstructure with a 122 mm howitzer on it. The result was an assault gun whose task was to accompany infantry and to break up fortifications, machine gun nests and built-up areas that ordinary tank armament could not deal with. It went into production at the end of 1942 and made its mark in combat in the period when the Red Army was going over to the attack. Characteristic of it is the low sloping superstructure with a short barrel, which is unmistakable at first glance among the other vehicles built on the same chassis.
Soviet vehicles in the field were covered with cargo, tarpaulins and spare parts, but in a small scale the key is not to overdo it. A few clearly visible groups work better than an even covering of the whole superstructure. Set the cargo apart from the vehicle in color, lighten the edges finely and let the dust settle where it would have stayed on the real machine: around the fenders, the hatches and in the corners of the superstructure.
