A masking set from the Czech brand Peewit for a plastic model of the Supermarine Spitfire fighter in the Mk.Ia version in 1:72 scale. This is not a kit but die-cut self-adhesive stencils, with which you cover the areas that are to stay free of paint while spraying — above all the glazing and the framing of the canopy. The exact make-up of the sheet is not stated here, so before you buy compare the version of the aircraft and the shape of the canopy with the kit you are building.
The Spitfire Mk.I was the first production version of the legendary British fighter, with a Rolls-Royce Merlin engine and an elliptical wing. The Mk.Ia designation is used for machines with machine gun armament in the wing, as against the later version with cannons. Together with the Hurricanes it was precisely these aircraft that formed the backbone of the British fighter defense in 1940. In 1:72 scale it is one of the most frequently built types of all, so the set will find a use with a number of kits from different manufacturers.
Degrease the surface before applying the mask and let it dry. Press the mask down around its edge with soft tweezers or a toothpick, so that paint cannot run under the edge. On a Spitfire it pays to spray the interior shade of the framing first and only then the external camouflage. Apply the paint in thin coats; a heavy deposit forms a ridge at the edge of the mask that stays visible after it is removed. Take the mask off shortly after the paint has dried, not after several days.
