1:72 Tachikawa Ki-54 Hei is a set of self-adhesive masking templates from Art Scale for a model in 1:72 scale, in the single-sided version. Intended for the Special Hobby kit.

This is not a kit but a set of masks. The self-adhesive film is cut in advance to the shape of the cockpit frames and of the other areas that have to be covered while spraying. It is enough to peel the template off, stick it onto the clear part, spray the framing and lift the mask off once the paint has dried. On this type that is especially useful, because a twin-engine aircraft with a glazed pilots cockpit and side windows has considerably more frames than a single-seat fighter. The masks are cut for the Special Hobby kit.
The single-sided version. The name describes the set as single-sided, that is, for the outer side of the glazing. You can protect the inside while spraying with modeling putty or foam. The manufacturer lists the double-sided version separately; this set is without it.
The Ki-54 was a Japanese twin-engine all-metal aircraft of low-wing layout, used for crew training and for liaison and transport duties. It was built in several versions that differed in interior equipment; the designation Hei refers to one of them. With the Allies the type was listed under the code name Hickory. Because of its many windows it is an aircraft on which the quality of the masking shows immediately.
Wash and degrease the glazing, or the small templates will not hold. Carry them with tweezers and press the edges down with a toothpick. Lay the paint on in thin coats. Take the mask off shortly after the paint has dried, with a pull along the surface. On an aircraft with many windows, think the order through in advance: spray the frames in the interior color from inside first and only then the airframe from outside, so that you do not have to apply masks twice.
The set contains masking templates only, not the aircraft model, paints or glue, unless stated otherwise.
